“Mom, what’s for dinner?”
“Steak sandwiches.”
“I don’t like those.”
“Yes, you do; we’ve had them before; they’re on buns with melted cheese.”
Yes, my little guy does like steak sandwiches, be he always seems to forget what the hell he likes and dislikes. Every time I cook, he takes a look into the pan and declares it yucky. Then he takes a few bites at the table and hey, wow, he actually likes it. So tonight I tell him I’m making him the same thing he’s had before.
But not really.
Because last time I did use steak. But tonight I’m using:

I saute up those strips, add a little BBQ sauce, melt on some cheese and throw it on some buns. I present it to the family and we all dig in.
“Mom, this is the BEST steak sandwich EVER! Can we have it every night?”
AJ continues to happily eat and I congratulate myself on sneaking in some soy protein into his diet. However, he’s not likely to see this particular meal again because personally, I had to choke down every bite. Blech!
Wonderful story, I call it Houdini Mom, did you realize that when you became a mom you would have to perform magic to get them to eat? I didn’t. I let my daughter cover everything in ketshup just so she would eat some veggies, and didn’t let on that ketshup was made of tomatoes, cause she wouldn’t eat tomatoes!
This blog totally cracked me up. I used to sneak food into my family’s diet when they were younger too.

Oh, good to know. Graham and I were just talking tonight about trying to eat veggie more often, having just enjoyed a really good veggie recipe, and I might have tried these. I won’t bother!
